Royaume-Uni

There are 45 universities in the UK that have currently a medical school.

The medical undergraduate course can be completed in 5 or 6 years depending on the university and whether or not you want to do an intercalated BSc during year 3. The graduate entry course usually lasts only 4-5 years depending on university policy.

Entry requirements

These vary between universities but are very strict and exacting in general. However, they generally include 36 or above in IB (International Baccalaureat) with High Level in scientifical subjects and a very good performance in either BMAT (BioMedical Admissions Test) or UKCAT (UK Clinical Aptitude Test).

For Luxembourgish degrees there is no official guidance, however good grades are necessary. Luxembourgish student will have to pass an English exam prior to the application such as the IELTS (Internation English Language Testing Sytem).

BMAT and UKCAT are two medical admissions tests. All universities will use one of them to help them shortlist candidates for interviews.

All candidates also need to be 18 years old when the first term starts; this is due to insurance reasons. Every candidate will have to pass an interview with the desired university where he will be questioned about his determination, personal interests and relevant work experience and achievements.

Due to the Brexit, some things have changed for EU students. The student fees have been raised for EU student and if you’re planning on studying in the UK for a longer period of time, you’ll have to apply for a student visa before entering the country. You’ll also have to pay a fee in order to benefit from the National Health System in the UK.

Médecine Humaine

In recent years, the Netherlands has become an increasingly popular destination for Luxembourgish students pursuing medical studies, thanks to its high-quality education and the availability of international programs. However, starting from the 2026–2027 academic year, no Dutch university will offer an English-taught bachelor’s program in Medicine.

The application process for studying Medicine in the Netherlands is divided into two phases. Phase 1 is the Central Application via Studielink. First, all applications must be submitted through the central Dutch registration platform at Studielink: https://www.studielink.nl

To apply for the Bachelor’s in Medicine, you must choose “Geneeskunde” as your program in Studielink. Registrations generally open in September and close on 15 January. Be mindful of this deadline. Medicine programs in the Netherlands are subject to a numerus fixus, meaning that only a limited number of spots are available, and selection is competitive. You can apply to only one medical program in the Netherlands per academic year.
